Hostel trailer analysis

The mise-en-scene of this clip shows various things which are iconic to the horror genre. At the start of the trailer we see an establishing shot of the setting which is of some kind of abandoned factory this instantly gives us a good idea that this is a trailer for a horror movie. As the trailer continues we see various equipment for torture such as a dentist’s chair, rusty tools, surgery and dental equipment and various clothing such leather aprons and welding masks, these all make it very clear that this is a horror film that is being previewed and rules out any other genre.
Throughout the trailer there are various diegetic sounds such as water dripping and cries of pain, these both strengthen the thought that this is a horror film and helps to rule out any other genre.
The way editing is used in this trailer is common placed in the horror genre. The use of negative flashes and fades to black create a sense of fear and the way that dialog is supper imposed onto the clip not only give the viewer(s) some idea of the films plot but also make the trailer more erie.
